Konferenz in der Universität Zürich “Katalonien und der Wunsch nach Unabhängigkeit”
Seit 2012 haben jedes Jahr am 11. September in Katalonien riesige Demonstrationen für die Unabhängigkeit Kataloniens stattgefunden. Über eine Millionen Menschen haben jeweils an diesen Demonstrationen ein Referendum über die Unabhängigkeit Kataloniens gefordert. Dies waren die grössten Demonstrationen in der Geschichte Europas. Warum fordert eine Mehrheit der katalanischen Bevölkerung ein solches Referendum? Was sind die historischen, politischen, kulturellen und wirtschaftlichen Hintergründe, welche in vielen Katalanen in den letzten Jahren den Wunsch nach Unabhängigkeit geweckt hat?
Um die Hintergründe der jetzigen Situation besser und tiefer zu verstehen, laden wir Sie gerne an diese Veranstaltung ein.

Klaus-Jürgen Nagel ist Professor für Politikwissenschaft an der
Pompeu Fabra Universität in Barcelona.
Biography note
Klaus-Jürgen Nagel is Professor of Political Science. His research interests include political theory (nationalism, federalism) and comparative politics (nationalist parties and movements, European Integration). He has also worked on Catalan history (national movement, working class movement, history of the wine sector). He studied social sciences and history at the universities of Münster and Bielefeld and obtained his Staatsexamen in 1981 (in both history and social sciences) and his doctoral degree in 1989 (in philosophy). Before he changed to Pompeu Fabra University, Nagel had worked at Universität Bielefeld (history departament) and Johann Wolfgang Goethe-Universität Frankfurt am Main (social sciences department).

-Nationalism (theories; comparative analysis of national movements).
-Federalism (theories; comparison, specially Germany and Spain)
-European integration (the role of the regions; cultural diversity).
